CALHOUN COUNTY, Texas – Authorities recovered the bodies of a 28-year-old father and his 4-year-old son after the pair went missing while fishing at Hog Bayou in Calhoun County, officials said.

Texas Game Wardens were notified Wednesday by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office about an overdue family last known to be at Hog Bayou, which is located around 33 miles from Victoria.

Earlier that morning, maintenance crews with the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority discovered two children, ages 4 and 6, alone at the Hog Bayou boat ramp.

The children told crews they had been fishing late the night before when their 4-year-old sibling entered the water.

Their father immediately went in to try to rescue the child, but neither resurfaced.

Multiple agencies launched a search of the area, including Texas Game Wardens, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the General Land Office. Crews searched both the water and surrounding shoreline, with DPS deploying a fixed-wing aircraft equipped with thermal technology and the General Land Office providing a drone to assist ground teams.

The father was located and recovered around 1 p.m., and the child was found about an hour and a half later, officials said.

Hunter Hadley’s Quest, Inc. also assisted in the search and is continuing to support the family.
