Happy Thursday,

Like so many others, I cheered loudly on Sunday when Michael B. Jordan took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in “Sinners.” In my opinion, that film should’ve taken home Best Picture — it was my favorite of the year.

If you enjoyed “Sinners” as much as I did, you have an opportunity to hear two musicians who contributed to its score perform in Fort Worth this Saturday at the African American Roots Music Festival.

The festival has become a favorite for its mission on spotlighting how Black artists shaped American music. I spoke with event founder Brandi Waller-Pace about the event’s impact during its 5th birthday last year.

Musical contributors to ‘Sinners’ perform in Fort Worth

Artists Justin Robinson and Jake Blount are among the headliners for this year’s festival. Robinson can be heard on “Old Corn Liquor.” Blount served as a musical consultant on the film.
