Following two separate train incidents in Fort Bend County in one week, Eyewitness News took a look at train crashes that impact our area.

The first incident happened on Tuesday along Highway 90A in Missouri City, when an Amtrak passenger train was near its stop in Houston after a long trek from Los Angeles. While the cause of the crash is unknown, authorities said the incident also involved an 18-wheeler.

The second incident happened on Wednesday, when a train derailed on Highway 90 near OakBend Hospital, impacting traffic in Richmond and Rosenberg. While crews were able to clear some crossing lanes, officers said it would take days to complete the cleanup.

Data from the U.S. Department of Transportation showed that there were 174 train accidents in Texas in 2025 and 103 derailments.

The number of accidents is more than in any other state. When you add it all up, the total damage cost is more than $50 million.

In Harris County, data showed a total of 44 accidents in 2025, including 19 derailments.

Meanwhile, in Fort Bend County, the average is fewer than three train accidents a year since 2021, with only four derailments from 2021 to 2025.
