AUSTIN, Texas — A major milestone is being celebrated by an organization dedicated to uplifting the next generation of young women. Girls Empowerment Network is marking 30 years of impact, continuing its mission to support, inspire, and equip girls across Texas.
Sierra Waggoner sat down with Brittany Yelverton to talk about how the organization has grown over the past three decades and the difference it continues to make in the lives of young women.

We’ve been doing this work since 1996, starting with a group of moms in Austin who wanted to make sure girls knew they were enough, just as they are.”

“One of the things I value most is that we’re youth voice and youth choice. All of our programming reflects what girls are navigating today — from stress management and communication to advocacy, healthy friendships, and career exploration.” Courtesy: Girls Empowerment Network
What started as a local effort has expanded into a multi-city organization, now serving girls in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. Along the way, Girls Empowerment Network has evolved to meet the changing needs of young women, while staying rooted in its mission of building confidence, leadership, and connection. “One of the things I value most is that we’re youth voice and youth choice. Yelverton shared that today’s girls are navigating a unique world — one shaped by social media, shifting expectations, and new opportunities — and the organization is focused on helping them build resilience and self-worth. “Girls are yearning for third spaces outside of home and school where they can feel connected, supported, and seen, while also developing strategic skills to succeed in life and their future careers.”

One of the organization’s signature events, the Radiant G Summit, brings girls together for a day of inspiration, connection, and empowerment. “The Radiant G Summit on April 24th is a powerful experience where high school leaders and adult professionals come together to hone their professional skills, explore careers, and build confidence. We focus on identifying strengths, managing stress and imposter syndrome, and stepping fully into leadership roles.”

As the organization celebrates 30 years, community support remains a key part of its mission. Volunteers, donors, and advocates all play a role in ensuring more girls have access to these life-changing programs. “The support of our community helps us provide programs that allow girls to see themselves reflected in their education and opportunities. When a girl realizes she belongs and is capable, everything changes — she moves forward with confidence and purpose.”
