SAN ANTONIO, Tx —

Leon Valley Police are searching for a driver who didn’t stop to help a woman who was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the 5600th block of Grissom Rd.

On the morning of Mar. 7, 43-year-old Rose Marie Jones left her home at The Finely Apartments on Grissom Rd. to get something from the store for her elderly neighbor. Her sister Jennifer Benavides says when she didn’t return home and the police were seen down the street, her family felt in their hearts something was wrong.

“I talked to one of the cops,” Benavides said. “I gave them a description of my sister. We tried looking for her. Her shoes were in the street and she wasn’t coming home. We had a feeling she had gotten hit and they had taken her.”

Julie Benavides kept hoping her sister would walk through their door until she got the grim confirmation.

“I was just hoping she would call me,” Benavides said. “I called her phone and she didn’t answer. The whole day I waited for her to come back and she never did. They later confirmed it was her body.”

Benavides says her sister was hit and killed while she was walking on the sidewalk near Grissom and Timberhill. The driver of the car fled the scene. Rose’s uncle Michael Samniego is hoping whoever’s responsible for taking his niece’s life will come forward.

“It will put a face to the accident,” Samniego said. “Then there’s no more what-if’s. We’ll know exactly what happened. Some of the what if’s are killers.”

The Leon Valley Police Department says the accident is still under investigation. They are asking anyone with information on the hit-and-run to come forward. Rose Marie Jones will be laid to rest on Mar. 24. at the Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home. Located at 226 Cupples Rd. Her family has set up a GoFundMe.
