Spring time weather has arrived in the Lubbock area. That means dust storms, high wind, fire danger days and soon, severe weather season. It also means we will stat getting a taste of what this Summer will feel like and that really began on Thursday.
Summer-Like Weather in Lubbock and the South Plains
If you are a fan of hot temperatures, the next few days will make you very happy. Highs on Friday will be around 97 degrees if not hotter in some areas. Look for record high temperatures on Saturday when high’s could hit triple digits around the South Plains.
Sunday brings some relief as high temperatures will only be in the low 90’s with breezy conditions across Lubbock. There is a chance of blowing dust as well on Sunday.

According to Ron Roberts at KAMC, a brief cool down will happen Monday with high temperatures in the 70’s.
Fire Weather Danger in Lubbock
The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Lubbock and the South Plains Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. That means any outdoor fire could expand rapidly and get out of control.
