AUSTIN, Texas — After nearly four weeks of closure during a stretch of near-record high temperatures, Barton Springs Pool is set to reopen this Saturday, March 21.

The City of Austin said city staff and contractors completed the Barton Springs Skimmer Bypass Project this week at the pool, 2131 William Barton Dr., to address safety and environmental concerns. The work removed and mitigated a decommissioned skimmer bypass dating to about 1940.

The pool had originally been scheduled to reopen on March 13, but officials said crews required specialized equipment and additional time.

City officials said environmental protections for the sensitive habitat of the endangered Barton Springs salamander were monitored during construction by Austin Watershed Protection, and the changes are expected to support a more stable environment in the critical habitat.

Visitors can buy tickets in advance using the free ATXSwims app, available at the Mac App Store or Google Play. Tickets will also be sold onsite at ticket kiosks or at the counter.
