Study shows renting still remains at high levels in the city, despite increasing home ownership.
DALLAS — Gen Z is increasing home ownership in Dallas, according to a new study.Â
RentCafe released a study that Gen Z homeownership increased from 2,000 to 25,000 in the last five years. The study reveals the quick increase is faster than the national trend.Â
However, renting still remains high in Dallas with 88% of Gen Z still renting, ranking the metro 16th nationally, according to the study. The number of Gen Z renters jumped from 26,300 to almost 189,500 in the last five years, placing Dallas 31st in the nation for renter growth.Â
The trend in homeownership can be credited to Gen Z incomes nearly tripling in the last five years, with a job market growth of 9%, the study found.
Other Texas cities with a high Gen Z renter growth include El Paso and Houston with McAllen and San Antonio leading the Gen Z homeowner growth.Â
