LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Goodbye Winter, hello Spring! Or should I say Summer? Record heat is expected for the 5 of the next 6 days for the majority of the South Plains with temperatures soaring to the 90s.
We’ve already broken the record high of 89° in Lubbock this afternoon. I expect to see more records fall over the next several days with a cold front arriving Monday to give us a brief respite.(Dylan Smith)
TONIGHT
Thanks to the warm afternoon today overnight lows have a high point to start with. That’s going to allow us to remain mild overnight around the 50 degree mark.
Temperatures will stay fairly mild for this time of year, closer to 50 degrees to start your Friday morning.(Dylan Smith)
Winds stay fairly light at less than 10 mph.
FRIDAY
A second record in as many days is expected to fall. The current forecast for Friday’s high temperature is 95 degrees for Lubbock with mid 90s dominating the area as well.
Record heat is likely for the next 3 days before a cold front helps cool us off to start out next week(Dylan Smith)
Winds don’t follow suit, generally staying a light breeze of around 10 to 15 mph.
UPCOMING WEATHER PATTERN
We’ll continue to see mid 90s heading into Saturday and possibly even Sunday depending on the timing of our next cold front. That front will help keep us slightly cooler Sunday afternoon, generally in the low 90s, with Monday of next week staying significantly cooler in the 70s.
Record heat is expected aside from Monday for the majority of the next 7 days.(Dylan Smith)
However, high pressure influence returns in force by Tuesday as we soar right back up to the low to mid 90s heading into the middle of next week.
