Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., announced that the General Land Office (GLO) is awarding approximately $84.6 million to 14 coastal counties for habitat restoration, erosion control, water quality improvements, and public beach access projects.

The funding comes through the Coastal Management Program (CMP) Grant Cycle 31 and the Coastal Erosion Planning and Response Act (CEPRA) Cycle 14. Commissioner Buckingham presented checks in Corpus Christi and Brownsville on Tuesday.

“As someone who lived on the Texas coast for over a decade, protecting our communities, wildlife, and habitats is personal to me,” Buckingham said. “This funding will help ensure our coast remains resilient for future generations.”

CMP grants are supported by NOAA, GOMESA funds, and local matches. Projects include land acquisition for habitat preservation, invasive species removal, water quality enhancements, and increased public beach access.

The awards benefit counties such as Aransas, San Patricio, Calhoun, Cameron, and Refugio, along with cities like Corpus Christi, Rockport, and South Padre Island, and partners including Texas Parks and Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Applications for the next CMP cycle opened March 1, 2026.
