CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M surrendered three first half goals on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 3-1 Lone Star Conference decision to the Comets of UT Dallas on Senior Day at The Pitch in Canyon.
 
The first half began with UT Dallas taking an early lead, as Gabby Thompson scored in the 8th minute. Despite several attempts by Lawrencia Yeboah and Lauren Stokes, the Lady Buffs were unable to capitalize on their chances. UTD extended their lead with another goal from Thompson in the 18th minute. West Texas A&M found a response in the 33rd minute when Adjeley Kpobi converted a penalty kick, cutting the deficit. However, the Comets had already built a substantial lead with Thompson securing a hat trick in the 32nd minute. The half ended with the Lady Buffs trailing 3-1.
 
The second half commenced with the Lady Buffs seeking to capitalize on their home advantage. Mollie Ferro opened with a shot in the 48th minute, though it went wide, while Sarah Hernandez Lopez tested the UT Dallas goalkeeper, McKenzie Hunninghake, with a shot saved in the 55th minute. Sydney Nanz played a crucial role in maintaining defensive stability, saving multiple shots from UTD’s attackers, including attempts by Chelsea Vilca, Aubree Wilson, and Grace Pritchard. Despite efforts from both teams, the score remained unchanged throughout the half.
 
Kpobi scored one goal, converting her lone shot on target. Nanz made four saves, with three of those coming in the second half. Yeboah led the team in shots, attempting three during the match. Hernandez Lopez registered one shot on goal, contributing to the team’s offensive efforts.
 
Gabby Thompson stood out with a hat trick, contributing three goals from six shots, four of which were on target. She also delivered the game-winning goal. Chelsea Vilca provided an assist and managed a shot on goal. McKenzie Hunninghake played 87 minutes as goalkeeper, making one save while facing nine shots.
 
The Lady Buffs host their regular season home finale on Wednesday night as the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian come to Canyon with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
