EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating an in-custody death after a man died while being taken into custody in San Elizario.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s office, a 46-year-old man died after deputies responded to a disturbance call in San Elizario.

At approximately 4:59 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 12500 block of Campo Bello in reference to a subject disturbance.

When deputies arrived, the man fled and became combative, authorities said.

Deputies were able to arrest the man, but he lost consciousness after being taken into custody.

The 46-year-old man was transported to a local hospital with CPR in progress and was later pronounced dead.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers have assumed the investigation, which remains ongoing.

No additional information was released.
