The Cowboys have always shown a strong correlation between who they meet with officially and who they end up drafting.Many teams like to hide their intent, but the Cowboys are a straight-forward organization, sometimes to their detriment.Official visits to team facilities are limited to 30 prospects, with teams also able to have a day where local prospects can visit as a group.The plethora of North Texas prospects gives the Cowboys a slight advantage here other teams may not enjoy.
The Dallas Cowboys have made several additions to their team via free agency, but to make a serious jump in talent level in 2026 and beyond, they are going to have to nail their draft class. There are several takeaways from how they moved over the last month that project forward, and fans can likely expect those to be born out via the prospects they show interest to.
Annually, the Cowboys have proven to be an organization that doesn’t waste time trying to mask their intent. Year after year, their draft classes are usually dominated by prospects who they have invited to their facilities to get a much closer look at. First-round pick Tyler Booker was a Top 30 visit, as was the team’s ultimate target, WR Tetoria McMillan. Third-round pick Shavon Revel was also a 30 visitor.
The difference is, where in previous years fans were able to account for 90% or more of the list, the first year under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer may have changed things. Only 21 of the 30 names became public last draft season, so it will be interesting to see how many names surface in 2026.
Teams have two methods for official visits to their facility. Each org can have up to 30 national visits, one-on-one excursions where the prospects tour the facilities, meet the coaching staff and go through an agenda that lasts several hours.
Then there’s a local prospect group activity, known as Dallas Day for the Cowboys. Prospects originally from a team’s area, or who attended school in the area, can come into the facility as a group for closer inspection. TCU, SMU, North Texas count for college, and every fan knows the bevy of high school talent that emerges from the area.
