LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The South Plains Chapter of the Texas Air Conditioning Contractors Association spent Saturday making sure older homeowners across Lubbock are prepared for the cold.
Saturday marked the organization’s 25th annual “Heat the Town” initiative. Professionals and volunteers donated their time and materials to make repairs to heaters for free.
Ron Chambless is a board member for the South Plains Chapter. He said people often have to make a difficult choice between warmth and safety during the winter, which is why events like these are crucial for the community.
“They have to choose medicine over service and a furnace and so a lot of times we will walk into furnaces that have never seen a wrench, never been cleaned, ever,” Chambless said. “We are going to make sure they are safe, the 70 recipients today, when we walk away, their furnaces will be safe, or they will be repaired or they will be replaced, free of charge to them.”
The South Plains Chapter of the Texas Air Conditioning Contractors Association helped 70 homeowners Saturday. The organization encourages everyone to make sure their furnace is clean and ready for use before winter hits.
