EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Stephanie Han is set to make her return to the ring in May when she looks to make her third world title defense in a rematch with Holly Holm.
The first fight in January was in Puerto Rico, but this time the bout makes it way to El Paso. Han will have the hometown crowd behind her.
I am so excited,” Han said. “This is what people dream of. El Paso is my city and my home. I now have the biggest platform with ESPN coming, and the whole world gets to see El Paso.
Han vs Holm II will headline MVP W 3 live on ESPN. In the first fight, Han took the victory by unanimous decision after a doctor’s stoppage due to a cut over Han’s eye. Now, after sharing the ring with Holm and proving she can beat her, Han enters the rematch with a surge of confidence.
“When I was in the ring with her, I realized she is just another human being,” Han said. “Now I know that I am strong, capable and my skills are great. I am going in there with confidence. The gameplan doesn’t change much, but hopefully I get a knock out. I am working on my power.”
The fight is now just over 10 weeks away, so Han is starting to ramp up her training for the bout. At this point, Han alternates sparring in the ring and training her condition each day.
“I am getting back into it and used to it,” she said. “The shock of boxing is different than any other training.”
Han and Holm will clash on May 30th, headlining MVP W 3 live in El Paso and on ESPN.
