A quarterback from a powerhouse high school football program in Texas has transferred to Mission Viejo, Diablos coach Chad Johnson confirmed Saturday.
Nash McElree, a 6-foot-1, 212-pound junior from Aledo in Texas, has enrolled at Mission Viejo, the player and Johnson said.
McElree played three seasons at Aledo, which has won a record 12 state titles in Texas.
In 2025, McElree competed 63 of 98 passes for 848 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He rushed for 203 yards and two scores.
Aledo won its first 14 games before losing to Lone Star 56-52 in the semifinals of the 5A Division 1 state championships.
McElree said he attended San Juan Hills a few months before enrolling at Mission Viejo.
Mission Viejo and San Juan Hills will both be in the Alpha League the next two seasons.
McElree said his family is from California and moved to Texas during the pandemic.
Mission Viejo quarterback Luke Fahey, The Register’s offensive player in the year in 2025, graduated early to enrolled at Ohio State.
Mission Viejo returns quarterback Brett Burnor, who will be a sophomore next season. Burnor (6-1, 200) has been offered by Sacramento State.
