One person was hospitalized in White Settlement Saturday afternoon due to a shooting malfunction
WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas — White Settlement police responded to what it classifies as an accidental shooting on Saturday afternoon in the 8200 block of West Freeway at the Shoot Smart indoor gun range.
Officers responded to the call at about 4:40 pm., and began treating the victim until EMS and members of the fire department arrived, according to a White Settlement Police Department release. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say investigators concluded that three men came to Shoot Smart for a shooting session, and at its conclusion, one of the men removed a magazine from his firearm but left his hand covering the muzzle of the weapon. At the same time, the man pulled the trigger and seriously injured his hand, causing a loss of functionality in several fingers and his hand.
No foul play is suspected, White Settlement police said, and all the firearms at the scene were legally owned.
