Continued record heat as a cold front approaches Sunday

  • March 22, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – That’s right, just a taste. A cold front arrives mid-day to early afternoon Sunday bringing with a significant but short-lived cooldown to kick off next week!

TONIGHT

No tricks or surprises tonight, just mild temperatures closer to 60 degrees and light winds.

SUNDAY

A little bit of a tricky forecast hinges mostly on the timing of our cold front. Current guidance is suggesting the cold front arrives mid-day to early afternoon.

I’m keeping high temperatures tomorrow for most of us in the 90s, just not quite as high as we got Saturday afternoon. Winds will start out quiet but ramp up behind the front heading into the afternoon, evening and overnight hours into Monday.

Increased fire danger is expected due again due to the dry and windy conditions we’ve got setting up behind the front.

UPCOMING WEATHER PATTERN

Next week will kick off much cooler in the 70s Monday. However, we’ll skyrocket right back up to near 90 degrees Tuesday and climb back into the low to mid 90s for Tuesday/Wednesday afternoons.

Late next week we’re eyeing another front that is looking to not only be a bit stronger than Sundays but also last more than just a day. Some longer heat relief could be in store for the final weekend of March! Still no promising rain chances in the extended forecast.
