A loud “boom” reported across parts of the Houston area Saturday afternoon prompted emergency calls and online speculation, but officials say they found no evidence of an explosion.
The Brenham Fire Department responded to reports of a possible explosion near Highway 50 and Wiedeville Road, according to a statement shared on its Facebook page. Crews searched the area but did not locate any signs of an explosion.
The department said responders “did not find evidence of an explosion” after arriving on scene.
The disturbance, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m., drew reports from across southeast Texas, with residents describing a loud noise. Some online accounts also claimed to have seen a flash in the sky, though those reports remain unverified.
Separately, a Houston-area homeowner told FOX 26 that an object crashed through her roof.
Sherrie James said she contacted the Ponderosa Fire Department after discovering the object inside her home. A fire captain who responded confirmed crews recovered what was described as an “unusual rock.”
Officials indicated there were no nearby sources, such as construction or trees, that could explain the object, according to the report.
Some online speculation has suggested a meteor may have caused the boom. However, no official agency has confirmed that explanation.
NASA has not confirmed any meteor activity connected to the incident as of this report.
The cause of the reported boom remains unknown.
