Queer The Runway will bring a night of style and community from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sue Ellen’s, a lesbian bar and nightclub in Dallas.
Robbi Young, co-CEO of Classic World Records, which created the event, said the organization wants to build an environment that’s inclusive where everyone knows they are welcome.
The event will feature LGBTQIA+ designers and models, live performances and special guests, and will be hosted by drag queen Laganja Estranja, known for her music, choreography and appearance on the reality TV show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
The event will include a performance from Jones Monroe, artist and co-CEO of Classic World Records, as well as designers House of Amadaus, Headliners by Sultana, FyaaFlyy, J Romero and Sleep, Never.
The event will open with a DJ playing a party mix for about the first hour, with queer influencer Larry the Fairy on the red carpet to welcome attendees. Afterward, Estranja and Monroe will introduce events, followed by the designers and models with drag queen performances. A video release of Monroe’s song “LA DA DI” will close out the night.
“Being able to create a space where they feel free to be themselves and live their best life with a group of people around them that truly support them and make them feel a part of something, I think that’s important,” Young said.
Young said they are looking to take the show on the road but want to build a strong community on their home base first to help spread the message of love.
A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Dallas Social Queer Organization, an organization that focuses on uniting and strengthening queer lives in Dallas, to support the fight for equality and community resources, according to its website.
Young said they chose the organization because it focuses on empowerment, support and queer joy, along with mental health awareness, which Classic World Records is committed to.
“Mental health is a very important aspect of the LGBT community, and so providing spaces where they can experience that joy and love is really important,” Young said.
Tickets start at $12.51 for general admission, $38.85 for general admission plus red carpet access and $55.20 for VIP.
