A child was killed after a vehicle slammed into a wall late Saturday on North Central Expressway in Dallas.

Police responded to the accident shortly after 10 p.m. in the 13700 block of North Central Expressway, near Spring Valley Road. The preliminary investigation indicated the car hit a wall, police said in an email.

The driver and a child were taken to a local hospital, where the child died. Authorities have not released the name or age of the child, and the driver’s condition is not known.

It was not immediately clear what caused the driver to hit the wall, and police said the crash is under investigation.

The wreck shut down several lanes of traffic for hours late Saturday and early Sunday. Traffic cameras from the Texas Department of Transportation still showed backups mid-Sunday morning.

The highway, also known as U.S. Highway 75, was the site of another fatal accident earlier in the week.

Shortly after noon Friday, a motorcycle driver was northbound on the connector ramp from North Central Expressway to the President George Bush Tollway in Richardson when he failed to negotiate a curve and was ejected, police said.

Authorities identified the motorcycle driver as 35-year-old William Anthony Matlock Jr., of Garland.
