One officer was briefly dragged away by the truck, police say, and the suspect reportedly tried running over another officer.
HURST, Texas — Police arrested a suspect Sunday morning after he reportedly led authorities on a chase in a U-Haul truck through Hurst after trying to run over an officer, officials say.
According to the Hurst Police Department, police were called at about 11:30 a.m. to the 700 block of Highway 26 about a U-Haul truck being driven erratically. The driver was reportedly yelling at people outside of the vehicle.Â
After arriving a few minutes later, police say they made contact with the man, Justin Vance Carter, who reportedly had active warrants for his arrest.
When attempting to arrest the suspect, Carter reportedly fled the scene in the truck, briefly dragging away an officer before another officer was able to pull him away. Carter then reportedly U-turned and tried to run over another officer, who was able to get out of the way before being hit.
Officers then went after Carter, pursuing him at low speeds for about an hour. Police in North Richland Hills, Haltom City and Watauga also helped in the pursuit, police say. Carter was eventually arrested by Hurst police at 12:41 p.m.
Police charged Carter with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, evading in a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, as well as his pre-existing warrants.
The investigation is still ongoing.
