The operation recovered $42,000 in cash and $100,000 in stolen property after an investigation began last year into retail theft at Walmart.
According to a post on March 20, Plano Police Department participated in Operation Mario Kart, recovering $42,000 in cash and more than $100,000 in stolen property.
The investigation began in 2025, when Plano Detective Alex Cole began investigating retail theft involving gaming electronics and accessories, according to a news release.

Cole partnered with Walmart Global Security Investigator Lee, who identified the individual who bought the stolen property to sell for a profit. The investigation included Plano Police General Crimes and the Special Investigative Services Units, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Allen Police Department, Nintendo of America and loss prevention teams at Walmart, Target and Kroger.
“This successful operation is the result of outstanding investigative work and we extend our sincere appreciation to every agency and business that contributed to this case,” Plano Police Department said in a news release. “Due to their hard work, a major organized retail theft suspect has been taken off the streets. Investigations of this scale are only possible through strong cooperation and shared commitment. Thank you all for a job well done!”
