The Maverick Networking Night and Elevator Pitch Competition will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the UTA Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology Development, bringing students, business professionals and recruiters together for an evening of networking and professional development.

The annual event is organized by the business communication faculty in the College of Business and sponsored by TotalEnergies, a global energy provider.

The event is designed to provide networking opportunities and help students develop professionalism and confidence in public speaking for students, said Kevin Carr, clinical associate professor of marketing. Throughout the event, students can meet and engage with local business professionals and recruiters to prepare for the job market.

As the event marks its second year, Carr said he and his team hope to increase participation and attendance.

The evening will feature nine finalists who will present 60-second elevator pitches, with business professionals and recruiters serving as judges.

Finalists will be evaluated on their opening, value proposition, closing, call to action, and verbal and nonverbal delivery skills. The top three students will receive scholarships.

The event is open to all UTA students. It will begin with a networking session followed by the finalist presentations. It will then transition into an “audience choice” round, where attendees can present their own elevator pitches and compete for a separate prize.

“I hope that our students are able to develop their confidence, authenticity and professionalism in face-to-face professional settings as they prepare for the job market through an event like this,” Carr said.
