TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Starting on Monday, the City of Tyler will have professionals out in the streets near Texas College to document historic structures in the area.

The comprehensive Historic Resources Survey will document, photograph and evaluate all the buildings near Texas College that were built before the year 1977, thanks to the Texas Historical Commission’s Certified Local Government program.

The survey will be conducted in the areas shown below over multiple week-long visits:

The survey professionals will be staying on the right-of-way and will not have to enter anyone’s property. According to the City of Tyler, the survey results will help the community with:

Identifying historically significant properties and neighborhoods.

Providing a foundation for future preservation planning efforts.

Informing potential local landmark designations or historic districts.

Planning and policy decisions related to growth and development.

The city said the final survey report for the area is expected to come out in September of 2027.
