It’s no surprise Texas is growing as a headquarters hub; heck, Gov. Greg Abbott has continually branded the state as “the headquarters of headquarters.” And while companies are relocating to the Lone Star State from across the country, California stands out as a primary origin of those moves.

Since 2020, more than 100 companies have relocated to Texas-40 percent of them from California, as reported by KERA News. Ten Fortune 500 companies have moved to Texas in the last six years, eight of them being from the Golden State.

Texas continues to lead the nation in reshaping the corporate landscape, as California faces the steepest net losses. Companies have cited Texas’ tax breaks, talent pipelines, and business-friendly regulations as drivers behind their transition.

Austin, in particular, has rivaled California’s ‘Silicon Valley,’ often referred to as the ‘Silicon Hills,’ as the city continues to grow into a tech epicenter.

These 20 companies are among dozens that traded their California-based headquarters for the Lone Star State in the last decade:

This financial services company announced it would move its headquarters from San Francisco to Westlake in 2019. The announcement came alongside the company’s $26-billion acquisition of TD Ameritrade.

Oracle, a technology company and database software provider, moved its headquarters from Redwood City to Austin in 2020. When the move was announced, Oracle said the decision allowed for more flexibility for its work-from-home employees. In 2024, the company announced it would relocate to Nashville, Tenn., but the Oracle website still lists its World Headquarters in Austin.

In 2020, CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, relocated its headquarters from downtown Los Angeles to Dallas. At the time of the move, North Texas was one of CBRE’s largest markets, as reported by WFAA.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise, a global enterprise technology company, announced it would relocate its headquarters from San Jose to Spring in 2020. The company said the Houston market was ideal for recruiting and retaining future diverse talent.

Formerly Wesco Aircraft, Incora relocated to Fort Worth from Valencia in 2020. The move brought a $6 million capital investment and nearly 240 jobs, according to a previous announcement from Gov. Abbott.

A multinational infrastructure consulting firm, AECOM relocated its headquarters from Los Angeles to Dallas in 2021. The company said that North Texas provided AECOM “additional benefits as a corporate hub and talent magnet for the engineering and consulting industry,” in a prior news release.

One of three Elon Musk-owned businesses to relocate to the Lone Star State, EV company Tesla moved its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin in 2021. Space X, aerospace manufacturer and transportation company, relocated its headquarters from Hawthorne to Starbase in 2024. Similarly, X moved its HQ from San Francisco to Bastrop that same year.

Formerly a Los Angeles-based franchise, fitness chain F45 moved its corporate headquarters from El Segundo to Austin in 2021.

Data center services company Data Realty announced a relocation of its headquarters from San Francisco to Austin in 2021. The company said the move reflected Digital Realty’s track record of success and growth in Texas, according to a prior news release.

Formerly NinjaRMM, NinjaOne announced a relocation of its headquarters from San Francisco to Austin in 2021. The software firm went virtual for a few months following the end of its lease in the Golden State before officially relocating to Texas, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman.

The largest U.S. provider of prepaid debit cards, Green Dot, moved its headquarters from Pasadena to Austin in 2021. The financial technology company said it was taking advantage of Texas’ business-friendly environment, as reported by KVUE. 

Cybersecurity and online protection company McAfee brought its regional headquarters from San Jose to Frisco in 2023. The business is now located on a 91-acre campus that also houses the Dallas Cowboys HQ, among others.

In August 2024, Chevron-one of the world’s largest oil-and-gas corporations-announced it was relocating its headquarters from San Ramon to Houston. The move came with job cuts for about 600 employees of its California headquarters in 2025.

Resources Connection, a management consulting firm, announced a relocation of its headquarters from Irvine to Dallas in 2024. The company left behind California for the Lone Star State after occupying its Irvine office for 30 years.

Global tech firm Simplilearn announced a relocation of its headquarters from San Francisco to Plano in 2024. The company said the “strategic shift” placed it at “the heart of a thriving technology hub.”

Real estate listing company Realtor.com announced a relocation of its headquarters from Santa Clara to Austin in early 2025. The company cited a boom in the state’s real estate market and a push to hire local Texas talent.

A hair-care giant, known for its global product lines including Paul Mitchell, Tea Tree, and Neuro, announced a relocation of its headquarters from Los Angeles to Wilmer in 2025. The relocation also included the development of a new global distribution center.

The world’s largest self-storage company, Public Storage, announced it would officially relocate its corporate headquarters in 2026. The company moved from Glendale to Frisco amid a leadership overhaul.
