A San Antonio man has been arrested after a deadly family shooting in Kemah earlier this month, the Galveston County Daily News reported.
The paper said James Nathan Malo, 40, was taken into custody around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 8300 block of Perrin Beitel Road on the city’s Northeast Side, citing the Kemah Police Department. He was taken to the Galveston County Jail and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Galveston County records show; a judge set bail at $400,000.
The Oct. 12 shooting happened in the 400 block of Bay Avenue in Kemah during a family gathering, police Chief Raymond Garivey told the Daily News. Officers found two brothers with gunshot wounds. Richard Samora, 30, was shot in the face and died two days later. His brother was shot in the shoulder, underwent surgery, and has since been interviewed by investigators.

Garivey said the brothers were asked to leave earlier in the evening, but later returned and tried to kick in the door, leading to gunfire, according to the Daily News.
“All of the people involved are family members,” Garivey said. “This was an isolated incident. There is no ongoing threat to the community.”
A semiautomatic pistol was recovered at the scene, according to the Daily News. Malo, an in-law of the brothers, was initially detained for questioning but released when the evidence was inconclusive. After gathering witness statements and video footage, detectives obtained a murder warrant approved by the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.
Kemah detectives, assisted by the San Antonio Police Department, arrested Malo at his home, according to the report.
The investigation remains ongoing.
