HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found hanging underneath the I-610 North Loop overpass in northeast Houston late Thursday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD says officers responded to the scene with the Houston Fire Department at 7600 North Loop East. According to HPD Homicide Division, the man was found hanging underneath the middle of the overpass and had suffered burns to his body.

“The call originally came through from Union Pacific. They called in a brush fire to the Houston Fire Department and when they arrived, they say what they say saw – took care of the fire, and of course, unfortunately, the victim is deceased,” Lt. Khan with the Houston Police Department said.

The identity of the victim, believed to be a man between 40 and 50 years old, is not being disclosed at the moment, HPD says. They added that the man’s cause of death is pending autopsy results by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

When asked if this could be a suicide, investigators said, “It seems very unlikely.”

HPD Homicide Division urges anyone with information on the case to contact them at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
