SAN ANTONIO (March 23, 2026) — The San Antonio Public Library is hosting a night of punk rock, culture and community on Saturday, March 28. The event at Central Library, 600 Soledad St., will start with a talk by scholar and author Tara López and end with a punk rock concert on the top level of the parking garage overlooking downtown San Antonio.

Starting at 4 p.m., Tara López will discuss Chicanx punx in 90s El Paso, Texas, which embraced a DIY culture with roots in rasquachismo. Lopez will also do a reading from her book “Chuco Punk: Sonic Insurgency in El Paso.” López teaches Latinx and ethnic studies at Winona State University in Minnesota. Copies of “Chuco Punk” will be available for purchase by Nowhere Books at the event. Registration for the author talk is currently full. Limited standing room will be available outside of the Central Library Auditorium.

Following López’s talk, the library will host a live punk show on the top floor of the Central Library parking garage starting at 6 p.m. South Texas bands Sacred Games, W.I.M.P., Fatal Fatigue, and Del Rio border town punks The Code 88s will perform as the sun sets against a backdrop of the San Antonio city skyline. Registration is not required for the concert.

The event is organized and hosted by the Library’s Latino Collection & Resource Center (LCRC). Created in 1996, the Latino Collection houses bilingual resources consisting of fiction, non-fiction, biographies, media, magazines, and more that document and explore Latino history and culture. In 2017, the collection was renamed the Latino Collection & Resource Center. LCRC programming explores the intersectionality of Latino experiences and brings together communities to promote the resources of the library and provide space for collaboration and celebration.

Parking will be available on the first and second floors of Central Library’s parking garage. Parking is free for up to three hours with validation, available inside the Central Library lobby. To learn more about this event, visit the Library’s events calendar.
