Spring has arrived, and Austin Water is urging residents to “know your watering day” — a move that can protect the region’s water supply while also cutting monthly costs.

Austin Water says reducing outdoor watering to once a week, instead of two or three times, can save the average household between 7,000 and 14,000 gallons each month — and up to $150 on a water bill.

The city’s watering schedule is based on address numbers. Even-numbered addresses are assigned on Thursday as their watering day. Odd-numbered addresses are assigned on Wednesdays.

Austin Water also says automatic and manual watering systems should only run during off-peak hours — 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. — and not during the heat of the day.

Beyond saving money, Austin Water says conservation reduces energy use and helps protect the community’s water supply for the future.
