Long security lines at airports nationwide are increasing. Check the estimated TSA wait times to see how early you need to show up to make your flight.

HOUSTON — As the partial government shutdown continues, travelers are feeling the impact.

In Houston, travelers at both IAH and Hobby have experienced significant delays while passing through security. In some cases, people have waited for several hours to get through the TSA lines.

Houston airport officials said travelers should be aware that wait times could be impacted due to operational changes, too.

At Bush Airport, TSA PreCheck is only available early in the day and will close at all terminals at 10:30 a.m. Standard screening is available in Terminals A, C and E. According to a social media post from Bush Airport, CLEAR will not be operating on Monday, March 23.

At Hobby Airport, TSA is operating reduced screening lanes, which may increase wait times.

The Department of Homeland Security released some numbers showing how many workers had called out due to the partial shutdown. Nationwide, about 11.5% of its workforce called out sick on Friday, which was the highest percentage of workers to call out on a single day during the shutdown.

DHS said TSA officers have gone without pay three times in the last six months.

“Many TSA officers cannot pay their rent, buy food, or afford to put gas in their cars — forcing them to call out sick from work,” the agency said in a statement.

Federal immigration officers were called in to help the rush of passengers at US airports.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said “hundreds” of officers would be deployed, although it was unclear which airports they’re going to.

On Monday, they were spotted at both Houston international airports. KHOU 11’s sister stations in New Orleans and Phoenix reported seeing ICE agents at their international airports.

Last weekend, President Donald Trump said federal immigration agents were going to assist TSA by guarding exit lanes or checking passenger IDs.

He called on Democrats to agree to fund the DHS, which had its funding lapse on Feb. 14.
