This past weekend in El Paso, engines were revving, chrome was shining, and women were front and center at the 2nd Annual “Rolling with the Ladies” Car Show. The event brought together lowriders, custom builds, and a strong sense of community which proved that car culture in the Borderland is alive, evolving, and deeply rooted in identity.

And now, that same culture is getting national recognition.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is celebrating lowrider culture in a major way with the release of its “Lowriders Forever” stamps and collectible keychains.

Lowriders Forever Stamps Celebrates Chicano Culture

The release of the “Lowriders Forever” stamps pays tribute to Mexican-American and Chicano communities across the Southwest, and for us El Pasoans this is something that hits close to home.

Lowrider culture dates back to the 1940s, where everyday cars were transformed into rolling works of art that were designed to ride “low and slow” while showcasing creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural pride.

It’s literally the same energy seen at events like Rolling with the Ladies, where each vehicle tells a story far beyond what’s under the hood.

The “Lowriders Forever” stamp collection features five iconic rides, including:A blue 1958 Chevrolet Impala known as “Eight Figures”An orange 1964 Chevrolet Impala called “The Golden Rose”A green 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme named “Pocket Change”A blue 1946 Chevrolet Fleetline titled “Let the Good Times Roll / Soy Como Soy”A red 1963 Chevrolet Impala known as “El Rey”

The images were captured by photographers Philip Gordon and Humberto “Beto” Mendoza, with art direction by Antonio Alcalá, bringing the cultural masterpieces to life in stamp form.

Lowriders have long been a staple of Chicano culture, known for their bold designs, detailed paint jobs, and signature hydraulic “hopping” that turns heads at every show.

I fondly remember growing up in El Paso and heading to my grandma’s house in the lower valley and seeing lowriders drive around and always thinking, “How cool is that car!”

Now, that legacy is being honored nationwide.

The 15-piece stamp collection is priced at $11.70, while matching keychains featuring the same designs are available for $9.95. Both can be pre-ordered now through USPS.

Lowrider culture continues to prove one thing, this isn’t just about cars… it’s about culture, history, and the beauty of Chicano culture.
