A pedestrian was killed on I-69 Eastex Freeway, closing HOV and two northbound lanes. Expect major traffic delays.
HOUSTON — A man on foot was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle in the HOV lanes of IH-69 Eastex Freeway northbound near Crosstimbers, according to authorities.
Preliminary information from Houston METRO indicates the man ran across the freeway and was hit by a northbound vehicle. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Houston METRO confirmed the crash involved a non-METRO vehicle.Â
Houston police, METRO police, and first responders are on the scene, according to a traffic alert issued by Harris County Sheriff’s Lt. Terry Garza. The HOV lanes are fully shut down as a result of the incident, and two additional northbound lanes of IH-69 are also closed while authorities investigate.
Drivers in the area should expect significant delays and are advised to seek alternate routes. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, TxDOT Houston, and Houston TranStar are among the agencies involved in the response.
