  • March 23, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center will advance its mental health education with new state funding.

$5 million in state grants are part of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program going to several institutions to benefit licensed physicians pursuing mental health careers.

The Texas Tech Health Sciences Centers in Lubbock and El Paso will each receive about $555,000.

Governor Greg Abbott reiterated the state’s commitment to increasing access to mental health care across the state.

“These grants will create opportunities for our renowned higher education institutions to develop the next generation of healthcare leaders,” Abbott said.
