Corpus Christi icon Ronnie “Pointy Boots” Mathis will be laid to rest this week, with services announced by family friend Pete Trevino.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Funeral services have been announced for Corpus Christi icon Ronnie “Pointy Boots” Mathis, according to longtime friend and Big Bertha Foundation founder Pete Trevino.

Trevino shared a flyer on social media detailing the arrangements.

Visitation is scheduled for April 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service, 5921 Yorktown Blvd.

Funeral services will be held April 2 at 11 a.m. at Calvary First Baptist Church, 2906 Carver Dr.

Mathis will be laid to rest with military honors at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Road.

Those attending are encouraged to wear yellow in his honor.

Mathis died March 19 after a battle with stage four prostate cancer.

For years, Mathis was a familiar sight across Corpus Christi — often riding his bike in his trademark pointy boots, cowboy hat and colorful outfits, bringing smiles to strangers and friends alike.

In a 2025 interview with 3NEWS, Mathis spoke about his diagnosis and the perspective it gave him.

“When I started focusing on my behavior, I started becoming a better person,” Mathis said.

Mathis was a Vietnam veteran, according to Trevino, who said fellow veterans helped support him during his illness.

“VFW was one of my largest sponsors,” Trevino said. “They help tremendously.”

Trevino also shared that Mathis often underestimated the impact he had on others.

“He doesn’t realize what he means to the city,” Trevino said. “He doesn’t believe it.”

A fundraiser benefiting Mathis’ family is set for April 3 at the House of Rock, with all proceeds going to his loved ones, according to Trevino.

“He’s in a better place now… and his code of love and friendship will forever be etched in my heart,” Trevino said.
