HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 12-year-old boy has surrendered to authorities after they say he stabbed his 13-year-old sister Friday evening.
The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office says it happened at the North Vista Apartments located in the 300 block of North Vista Drive in north Harris County.
The constable’s office originally said the teenager had been stabbed multiple times, however at the scene, they clarified and said she was stabbed once.
She was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital. She is expected to recover.
Investigators said there was an argument between the siblings and the teenager was stabbed in the side by her brother. It is unclear what the argument was about, but investigators say there had been some sort of ongoing feud between the siblings.
The 12-year-old brother fled before deputy constables arrived and is still missing. Authorities used drones to search for him.
On Saturday, KPRC 2 learned that the boy turned himself in at the hospital with his uncle.
A nearby neighbor, named Jennifer, said she ran outside after hearing the sirens. She saw the girl, who was bandaged up by law enforcement. She recognized her and said she always pet her dog when she sees her.
She said she rushed over to the girl and started holding her hand and giving her comfort before she left in an ambulance.
“I mean, you know, in a mother’s comfort and a time of need like that, I’m looking at it being my child laying there, you know what I mean? So you just kind of take over. Even it’s not my child, it’s still a child,” Jennifer said.
She described the girl’s reaction.
“She was calm. You know, I just asked her, I was like, do you have any, you know, siblings, you know, or you know how old they are? And she was calm, she was, she, you could tell she was scared, but she understood what was going on. She knew that she had been stabbed, she knew who did it, and she was scared. I mean she was crying,” she said.
Investigators say a guardian was also at home when the stabbing happened.
