Four Fort Worth restaurants were temporarily closed, and roaches were found at others during the latest round of city health inspections, according to the inspection reports.
Fort Worth’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system: Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. Restaurants with over 30 demerits are required to fix the worst issues immediately and remedy the rest within 48 hours.
There were 249 inspections conducted between March 8 and March 21, according to the data compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Four restaurants were closed for serious violationsJ’s Noodle House, 10760 N Beach St., was temporarily closed after inspectors observed multiple health hazards including live and dead roaches throughout the kitchen. The restaurant scored 20.Mi Rey Mariscos & Micheladas, 2801 Hemphill St., scored 17 and was temporarily closed due to inadequate hot water and wastewater backup from sewer lines outside the facility. The restaurant scored 7 after a follow-up inspection.Family Dollar Stores, 4901 Mansfield Highway, was closed due to hot water issues. The health inspectors noted that corrective actions were completed.Quick Chek Food Store, 2301 E Berry St., scored 10. The store was closed due to plumbing issues and inadequate water supply.Three restaurants had high demerit scoresTakara Japanese Restaurant, 3088 Basswood Blvd., Suite 20. Score: 36. The restaurant scored 6 after a re-inspection.Ashims Hibachi Grill, 424 Taylor St. Score: 25. The restaurant had a follow-up inspection with an updated score of 7.Sushi Axiom Hibachi & Bar, 12650 South Freeway, Suite A Burleson. Score: 26. Health inspectors also observed one dead roach in a dry storage shed, an accumulation of dead roaches and a live roach underneath the sushi bar.
In addition to Sushi Axiom Hibachi & Bar, health inspectors observed roaches at several other restaurants:
Joe’s Pizza & Pasta, 8540 S Hulen St., a dead roach was seen by a water heater. The restaurant scored 23.C & D Kwik Stop, 4125 Mansfield Highway, Forest Hill, scored 21 and dead roaches were seen in the back area. The mart scored 10 after a follow-up inspection.Joe’s Future Food Mart, 4225 Miller Ave. score 18 and inspectors observed dead roaches next to the atm.Hashi Japanese Kitchen, 6370 Camp Bowie Blvd., Suite 122, health inspectors observed dead cockroaches in the corner next to the reach in the unit behind the cashiering area. The restaurant scored 15.Mexico Real, 5613 Mccart Ave., scored 8 and inspectors observed dead cockroaches by water heater and old mop sink.Outback Steakhouse, 4608 Bryant Irvin Road, Suite 421, live roaches and a dead roach was seen on top of raw chicken lid at the battering station. The restaurant scored 4.
