A motorcycle crash following a police pursuit on Monday afternoon has resulted in a fatality, authorities confirmed.
According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. in the 900 block of West Main Street.
League City Police Department officers observed two motorcycles traveling eastbound along the north sidewalk of FM 518 before entering the roadway at a high rate of speed.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but due to safety concerns, the pursuit was discontinued.
Shortly after the pursuit ended, one of the motorcycles slammed into a pickup truck, killing the rider, who was later identified as 19-year-old Maxwell Henley.
The second motorcycle driver, 22-year-old Carson Drucker, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle. He was held on a $250,000 bond.
Authorities also told KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry that Drucker had an outstanding felony warrant from Harris County for failing to register as a sex offender.
West Main Street remained closed into Monday evening as investigators continued to process the incident. It was cleared and reopened at 6:55 p.m.
Officials noted that it is standard procedure for an outside agency to handle investigations when the originating agency is involved in a pursuit that results in a crash.
