On a recent afternoon in Dallas, the energy inside Dallas West Branch Library looked a little different than usual. Instead of quiet stacks and whispered conversations, the room was filled with excited students gathered for storytime.

The event, known as Reading Timeout, is part of the annual reading challenge hosted in partnership with the Dallas Mavericks and powered by Whataburger. Now in its fourth year, the program focuses on making reading more accessible and engaging for students across Dallas-Fort Worth by encouraging students to read for at least 20 minutes a day for 40 days.

This year, held at the Dallas West Branch Library, Mavericks forward-center Dwight Powell joined students for a live reading, bringing energy and excitement to the room as kids followed along, page by page.
