SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio is asking for the public’s feedback on renaming César E. Chávez Boulevard after sexual abuse allegations against the late labor leader surfaced earlier this month.
An investigation by The New York Times found that Chávez groomed and sexually abused young women and girls who were part of the farmworker movement, including fellow labor leader Dolores Huerta.
An online survey, open now through April 2, asks if the street between Southwest 36th and South Hackberry streets should go back to Durango Boulevard or get a different name.
City leaders also dropped César Chávez Day as a March 31 holiday, canceling local marches and events after the allegations surfaced.
You can take the survey on the city’s website.
