STORRS, CT (WFSB) – The UConn women’s basketball team is headed to Texas for its Sweet 16 matchup with the University of North Carolina.
UConn held team sendoff event Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. on the Storrs campus.
The Huskies demolished 9th-seeded Syracuse 98-45 on Monday night at Gampel Pavilion in the NCAA tournament’s second round.
It was the last game at Gampel for seniors Azzi Fudd and Caroline Ducharme.
They, along with the rest of the team, head to Fort Worth, TX to take on 4th-seeded UNC Tarheels in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
The Sweet 16 appearance marks 32nd straight for the Huskies.
The game tips off at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Fans can watch it on ESPN.
Should UConn advance, they may have a rematch with Notre Dame. The Huskies buried the Fighting Irish earlier in the season.
Sixth-seeded Notre Dame plays 2nd-seeded Vanderbilt right before the UConn game.
That game tips off at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
The winner of UConn/UNC plays the winner of Notre Dame/Vanderbilt in the Elite 8 on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ABC.
