HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police said an investigation is underway after a woman was shot in the leg during an armed robbery at an Aldine-area pawn shop.

According to the Houston Police Department, two men wearing masks entered the pawn shop located in the 11800 block of Airline Drive at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The two suspects then robbed jewelry from the employees, authorities said, adding that there were several customers inside the pawn shop at the time.

Investigators said the suspects were running out into the parking lot when a customer chased after them. The customer, who had a gun, and the suspects exchanged gunfire, according to police.

Officials said that a woman, who was also a customer, was shot in the leg by the suspects during the crossfire. She was later taken to a nearby hospital, where she is expected to be okay, according to police.

HPD said the suspects fled the scene in a Suburban SUV. Police said they later found the Suburban abandoned in the area and confirmed that it was reported as stolen.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to officials.
