DALLAS (KDAF) — Texas ranked as the 15th most stressed state in the nation, according to a report released by the personal-finance company WalletHub. The study, “2026’s Most & Least Stressed States,” evaluated the 50 states to identify where Americans are best managing their mental health.
The report was released in coordination with Stress Awareness Month in April. WalletHub compared states across 40 key metrics, ranging from personal bankruptcy rates to the average amount of sleep adults receive. The findings were intended to highlight which states are in need of improvement regarding the well-being of their residents.
Work-related factors contributed significantly to the stress levels in Texas. The state ranked second in the nation for the average number of hours worked per week. Despite the high volume of work, Texas ranked 50th in the country for job security.
Health metrics also influenced the state’s ranking. Texas ranked ninth for the percentage of adults in fair or poor health. The state also ranked 21st for the share of adults who report getting adequate sleep and 14th for the number of psychologists per capita.
Financial and social indicators showed varying results for the state. Texas residents maintained a high median credit score, ranking fourth nationally. The report also found the state ranked 11th in the percentage of the population living in poverty and 28th for housing affordability. Other social metrics included a rank of 33rd for the divorce rate and 16th for the crime rate per capita.
