Waco, TX (FOX 44) — At an event held tonight at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Governor Greg Abbott made an appearance in support of Pat Curry.

Gov. Greg Abbott spoke about several policy issues he said Pat Curry has supported.

Governor Abbott said repeat violent offenders are responsible for hundreds of homicides in Houston and called for tougher laws to keep them in jail.

He also said only U.S. citizens should vote in elections.

Abbott said rising property taxes and higher insurance costs are driving up the cost of living in Texas and urged lawmakers to lower insurance rates while continuing property tax relief.

He also credited state leadership for Texas’s economic growth.

“It was just a couple of decades ago that Texas was ranked as the worst state in America for doing business, and with leadership over a two-decade time period, we’ve gone from worst to first,” Governor Greg Abbott said. “Texas has been ranked the number one state for doing business for 21 years in a row.”
