An Austin Reddit post captured what appeared to be Vance’s motorcade on the intersection of Loop 360 and Walsh Tarlton Lane: a string of Austin police officers on motorcycles with flashing lights, followed by patrol vehicles, then what seemed to be Secret Service black SUVs.
Another Reddit post shared a video of the motorcade, but did not clarify where the video was taken.
“Probably a week’s worth of ABIA TSA salaries driving by,” one Reddit poster commented, referring to the ongoing partial government shutdown causing TSA workers in airports across the country, including at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, to go without pay.
“Now’s your chance to loot literally anything since over half of Austin’s police force is cruising down 360 with this clown,” another Reddit comment read.
More complaints centered around the same subjects: a waste of taxpayer money and law enforcement resources. Others questioned why Vance was hosting a fundraiser, challenging the vice president over the amount in his political coffers.
Ahead of the event hosted by controversial Palantir and University of Austin co-founder Joe Lonsdale, the city of Austin said residents should anticipate road closures and traffic delays on Monday and Tuesday.
One Redditor mentioned Interstate 35 was at a “complete standstill” during rush hour Tuesday morning.
Another mentioned a similar situation on Highway 71.
