SAN ANTONIO – An elderly woman has been severely injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.
Around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, police responded to calls for a crash involving a pedestrian near the corner of Wallace Street and South General McMullen on the West Side.
When police arrived, they found a 74-year-old woman who had been struck by a vehicle while she was in the crosswalk. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Police say the driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman, stated she stopped at the light while driving south along South General McMullen. She was in the number 3 lane when the traffic light turned green.
The woman told police that she started to accelerate when all of a sudden, she noticed the elderly woman in the crosswalk.
Despite attempting to stop and avoid hitting her, she was unable to prevent the incident. The driver showed no signs of being intoxicated.
