With the 2025-26 season complete, TCU men’s basketball will start molding its roster for the future. That roster won’t include redshirt sophomore guard and former Kansas State transfer RJ Jones, who will reportedly hop back into the portal after two years with the Horned Frogs. Jones, a former four-star recruit, redshirted last season but saw minimal playing time this winter, averaging 2.6 points on 8-of-20 shooting over nine games. Jones, who spent one year at Kansas State before moving on, will have two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-2 guard from Denton, Texas starred at Wasatch Academy before signing with Kansas State. Jones saw the most playing time of his career with the Wildcats, making 28 appearances and averaging 2.4 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists on 9.0 minutes per game. Jones, who committed to TCU in May 2024, is the first player from the 2025-26 roster to declare for the transfer portal. His departure could clear the way for players like Kayden “Bugg” Edwards or JUCO signee Trent Lincoln, a 2027 four-star recruit, to earn playing time next year.
