The Texas UIL high school boys and girls soccer playoffs continued on Monday and Tuesday with the area round. See round ups and scores for Fort Worth-area teams.
GIRLSKeller steals Permian’s mojo in shootout
Keller got taken to a shootout, but goalkeeper Ava Johnston came up big as the Indians defeated Odessa Permian 2-1 on the strength of a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks in a Class 6A Division I area-round match on Monday afternoon at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene.
Keller (18-4-1) moves on the the regional semifinals and will face Arlington Martin (16-3-1)-Plano East (13-7-1). Permian’s season ends at 12-6-3.
Riley Hewitt got the scoring started in the 36th minute with a goal off a corner kick by Claire Garritson. Permian tied it in the second half and the two 10-minute overtime periods didn’t produce a winner.
Keller scored on its first four shots in the shootout with Hewitt, Katelyn Prichard, Mariela Lopez and Garritson all finding the back of the net. Johnston got the save on the third shot by Permian and the fourth sailed over the top of the goal.
Late goal lifts Grapevine over Joshua
Grapevine and Joshua were destined to go extra minutes on Tuesday in their Class 5A Division 2 area-round match, but sophomore Ella Wilson said ‘not so fast my friends’ as she scored the game-winner in the 77th minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage at Fort Worth Brewer High School.
Grapvine (15-5-6) will face Wichita Falls Memorial (19-1-1) in the regional semifinals later this week.
Wilson was in the right place at the right time as she took a rebound from a corner kick by Makena Kerr and blasted it to the back of the net from 15 yards out. Brooke Bereuter made it stand up in goal as the senior recorded a clean sheet.
Grapevine controll the pace of the game for most of the contest, but Joshua (18-5-3) did get a chance late when Hazel Curs pushed a pass to Hannah Day for a goal in the final minute. The score was waved off, however, after the referee ruled that Curs had used her had to move the ball to Day.
Burleson Centennial rallies late to oust Birdville
Down two goals with 12 minutes left in regulation, Burleson Centennial tied it in the 71st minute and then went on to beat North Richland Hills Birdville in overtime, 4-3, in a Class 5A Division 1 area round match on Tuesday night at Newsom Stadium in Mansfield.
Centennial (17-1-4) advances to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2022, where the Spartans will face Amarillo Tascosa (18-4-2) in the regional semifinals. Tascosa beat El Paso Americas 2-0 on Tuesday.
The Spartans got a cross in front of the net and Jayde Hudson’s shot went off teammate Bella Marquez’s face for the goal in the 68th minute that cut the deficit to 2-1. Three minutes later Andie Hafner found Charlie Watson, who scored the equalizer in the 71st minute.
Marquez gave Centennial the lead, two minutes into the overtime, off a Hannah Furney assist in the upper right corner from 20 yards away. A hard boot by Marquez, off the keeper, bounded back into Marquez’s shoulder and into the net to complete a hat trick and give the Spartans a 4-2 lead in the 87th minute.
Birdville (18-2-2) scored on a penalty kick with 1:42 left, but it was too little, too late. Mattea Perry (35th minute) and Alissa Duderstadt (53rd) gave the Hawks what seemed like a comfortable lead, but for the Centennial comeback.
Colleyville Heritage blanks Paschal
Ashlyn Bringedahl scored a pair of goals to lead Colleyville Heritage past Fort Worth Paschal 3-0 in a Class 5A Division 1 area-round match on Tuesday night at Fort Worth Nolan Catholic High School.
Colleyville Heritage (15-3-2) advances to the regional semifinals to face Amarillo (22-2-1), which downed El Paso 2-1 on Tuesday.
Heritage led 2-0 at the intermission with goals by Bringedahl and Addison Shimmick, who scored in the 35th minute. Bringedahl added her second goal in the second half with the assist coming from Shimmick.
Paschal ends at 17-6-0 with back-to-back District 7-5A championships.
Southlake Carroll shuts down Frenship
Payton Hayes scored twice for Southlake Carroll as the Dragons recorded a clean sheet, 3-0, over Wolfforth Frenship in a Class 6A Division 2 area-round match on Tuesday at Abilene Christian University.
Carroll (24-0-1) moves on to the regional semifinals and a date with Prosper (17-2-5) later this week. Prosper blanked Arlington 3-0 on Tuesday.
Ava Sexton also recorded a goal for the Dragons.

BOYSHat tricks power Aledo over Joshua
Aledo got hat tricks from Calvin Gruber and Trent Newton as the Bearcats blistered Joshua 6-0 in a Class 5A Division 1 area-round match on Tuesday at Fort Worth Brewer High School.
Aledo (21-3-1) will run into a stout squad from El Paso Bel Air (21-1-2) in the regional semifinals later this week. Bel Air defeated Wichita Falls Legacy in a shootout on Tueday.
Newton got things rolling for the Bearcats with a header off of a corner kick by Erik Soltow in the 19th minute. The two would connect again with a header off a corner in the 61st minute and Newton’s third headed-in goal came in the 71st minute off a 45-yard free kick by Robby Sloan.
Gruber followed Newton’s first goal with a blast from 20 yards out in the 23rd minute. Aledo led Joshua (8-10-5) 2-0 at the intermission.
Gruber opened the second half with another laser from 22 yards out to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead in the 47th minute. The junior started a spree of 3 goals in a 10-minute span with a goal in the 61st minute off an assist from Collin Moore.
Aledo controlled the ball for most of the match which helped goalkeeper Drew Voleh record the clean sheet.
Sam Houston drops heartbreaker to Allen
Allen’s Mason Leslie scored with under a minute to go in regulation as the Eagles eliminated Arlington Sam Houston 2-1 in a Class 6A Division 1 area-round match on Tuesday at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.
Allen (21-4-1) will meet Keller (16-3-6) in the regional semifinals later this week after Keller blitzed El Paso Pebble Hills 4-0 on Tuesday.
James Mastrangelo gave the Eagles a 1-0 in the 21st minute, but Sam Houston (22-3-0) rallied to tie it on a goal by Antonio Zavala off an assist by Pedro Medellin in the second half at the 52-minute mark.
Sam Houston was looking to advance past the area round for the first time since 2017.
Southlake Carroll eases past Montwood
Four different players scored as Southlake Carroll blanked El Paso Montwood 5-0 in a Class 6A Division 2 area-round match on Tuesday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.
Carroll (16-0-8) will face Plano West (16-5-1) in the regional semifinals. Plano West shut out Grand Prairie 4-0 on Tuesday. Cole Swett led the Dragons with two goals while Bruno Ganimi and John Skiermont each finished with one goal and two assists. Jad Shehadeh chipped in one goal while Hyounju Kim had one assist.
