Plano defeated Aurora Central Catholic 5-4 to headline Tuesday’s high school varsity softball action, while several area teams competed in close contests and high-scoring matchups.
Elizabeth Hansel drove in two runs and earned the pitching win for the Reapers, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts over four innings, while Cami Nunez and Chloe Rowe each recorded two hits. For Aurora Central Catholic, McKayla Edwards hit a solo home run and Corina Maratea allowed no earned runs while striking out nine in the pitcher’s circle.
Elsewhere, Yorkville fell 8-7 to Oak Park-River Forest after allowing three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning despite four hits from Alyssa Muhlbach — including a home run, double and two singles — along with RBI hits from Callie Ferko and Ellie Fox; Fox pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts, while Bella Rosauer allowed five earned runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts in three innings of relief.
Oswego lost 6-5 in eight innings to Naperville Central as Betsy Jack had two hits and two RBIs and Jaelynn Anthony doubled, scored and drove in a run.
Oswego East defeated West Aurora 18-7 behind three hits, four runs scored and two RBIs from Katie Silva and three hits, including a triple, and three runs scored from Katie Maday as the Wolves capitalized on 10 West Aurora errors.
Serena dropped a 7-1 decision to Ottawa despite singles from Finley Brodbeck, Anna Hjerpe and Jordyn Warren, while Cassie Walsh took the loss after allowing four earned runs on nine hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Geneva fell 11-5 to St. Francis of Wheaton with Clara Lyons hitting a two-run home run and Summer Ayersman driving in two runs.
Indian Creek lost 4-2 to Aurora Christian as Makenna Barshinger, Taylor Hulmes and Avery Kern each had a hit, Hulmes walked and scored, and Kern struck out 10 while allowing four earned runs over seven innings in the pitching loss.
