Lubbock ISD confirmed a student was hospitalized after being struck while using a crosswalk Wednesday morning near the Commander William C. McCool Academy.
Officials say the student was using the crosswalk to walk across Quaker Avenue and 31st Street around 8 a.m. when they were struck by a vehicle. The student was able to stand and walk to the sidewalk where they were quickly assisted by parents, students and staff who witnessed the accident, according to a statement from LISD.
Lubbock ISD Police, EMS, Lubbock Fire Rescue and the Lubbock Police Department were immediately notified and responded to the scene. The student was taken via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
The student’s condition, and other information about the vehicle and circumstances leading to the crash, were not immediately known. Lubbock ISD police are leading the investigation into the incident and will be assisted by the Lubbock Police Department.Â
The school continued with its normal school-day procedures, but LISD officials acknowledged situations like this can be stressful for students, families and staff who witness them.
“We encourage you to reach out to our office at 806-219-4600 if you have any questions or further concerns, or if you or your student need additional support,” the statement continues.
